Self Adhesive Graphics
Self adhesive graphics are widely used in large format printing for window displays, shop signage, and panel-mounted graphics. These graphics are produced using adhesive vinyl materials that can be applied directly onto surfaces such as glass, aluminium panels, or acrylic signage boards.
Businesses commonly use self adhesive graphics for:
- shop window signs
- promotional window graphics
- retail branding displays
- signage panels such as ACM (aluminium composite) boards
- acrylic signage panels

Self adhesive graphics allow businesses to apply high-quality printed visuals onto many types of surfaces without replacing the entire structure. This makes them a practical and flexible solution for both temporary promotions and long-term signage.
In some cases, large adhesive graphics may also function similarly to large format labels, particularly when used for branding equipment, displays, or panels. Businesses that require smaller product labels can refer to our custom label printing services, which are designed specifically for packaging applications.
Vinyl Printing for Signage
At UE Print, most self adhesive graphics are produced by printing onto self adhesive vinyl (SAV) and then applying the graphic to the desired surface.

This approach allows graphics to be applied onto different signage materials including:
- ACM panels
- acrylic signage
- shop windows
- display panels
The vinyl layer carries the printed design, while the underlying surface provides the structural support for the sign.
This method offers significant flexibility. If branding or promotional graphics need to be updated in the future, the vinyl can be removed and replaced without replacing the entire sign panel.
Vinyl + Laminate vs UV Direct Printing
Some signage providers use UV direct printing, where the artwork is printed directly onto rigid panels using UV ink. While this method can be suitable for certain applications, it has several limitations compared to the vinyl + laminate method used in professional signage production.

Durability
Graphics printed on self adhesive vinyl with laminate generally provide better long-term durability than UV direct prints.
The laminate layer protects the printed surface from:
- scratches
- cleaning damage
- weather exposure
UV direct prints do not have this protective layer, which means the printed ink surface is more exposed to wear over time.
Laminating Protection
Another limitation of UV direct printing is that UV prints typically cannot be laminated. Because the ink is printed directly onto the board surface, there is no separate protective film layer applied afterward.
In contrast, vinyl graphics can easily be laminated, creating an additional protective barrier that improves both durability and appearance.
Cost Comparison
One common assumption is that UV printing must be cheaper than vinyl graphics. In reality, the price difference is often very small.
In many cases, the cost of producing a vinyl graphic with laminate applied to a panel is similar to UV direct printing, while providing better protection and easier future replacement.
For this reason, vinyl graphics remain one of the most widely used methods for professional signage production.
Window Graphics
Window graphics are one of the most common applications of self adhesive vinyl. Retail stores, offices, and commercial spaces frequently use window graphics to display logos, opening hours, promotional messages, or branding visuals.

Window graphics can be installed in different ways depending on how the design is intended to appear from outside the glass.
Some graphics are applied on the outside of the glass, while others are applied inside the window but designed to be viewed from outside.
When the graphic is applied on the outside surface, it is printed normally and applied directly to the glass. This method provides the clearest visual appearance but exposes the graphic to weather and physical contact.
When the graphic is installed on the inside of the window, the artwork is printed in reverse so that it appears correct when viewed from outside. This method protects the graphic from weather and vandalism because the vinyl remains inside the glass.
Both installation methods are widely used depending on the environment and the specific project requirements.
Laminating Window Graphics
Another common question regarding window graphics is whether they should be laminated.
In most cases, laminating window graphics is recommended.

A laminate layer provides several advantages:
- improved scratch resistance
- easier installation
- better durability
- easier removal in the future
Laminated vinyl is generally easier to handle during installation because the additional layer improves stability and reduces stretching.
It also protects the printed surface from cleaning chemicals and everyday wear.
For businesses that want graphics to remain clean and durable for longer periods, lamination is usually the preferred option.
Practical Signage Solutions
Self adhesive vinyl graphics remain one of the most flexible and widely used solutions for modern signage. From window displays and promotional graphics to mounted signage panels, vinyl graphics allow businesses to update branding quickly while maintaining professional visual quality.
By combining high-quality vinyl printing with protective lamination and proper installation methods, UE Print provides practical large format printing solutions for businesses across Sydney.
